Identification #

This species has a conspicuous black hypothallus and is minutely lobed. The small gray to brown thalli, which often group and coalesce, are isidiate but not sorediate. Small brownish apothecia common. The lobes, isidia, and apothecia are all very small, inconspicuous, and liable to be overlooked.
