Identification #

Two species of Vulpicida occur in Alaska and are easily separated in the field. V. juniperinus lacks soredia while V. pinastri has marginal soredia along the lobes. Substrate is also useful in separating the species as V. juniperinus is found more strictly on calcareous soils and on top of calcareous boulders.
