Identification #

Cetraria nigricans is very similarly canaliculate in appearance to C. islandica, C. laevigata, and the Cetrariella species. It is usually darker than those species, having thalli which are blackened or nearly so. The cilia on this species are especially pronounced (Brodo et al. 2001).
