Identification #

On the upper surface, Peltigera scabrosa is a light to bluish-green to light brown pelt lichen with a scabrose (crusty), not tomentose (hairy), upper surface. P. scabrosa is the only scabrose species without well-defined veins on the ventral side of the lobes, although dark, tufted rhizines are found. The rhizines are much more noticeable than the faint venation. Orangish-brown apothecia are found uncommonly (Brodo et al. 2001).
