Identification #
Peltigera membranacea produces thin, flexible thalli. On the dorsal side it can be various shades of green, olive, gray, brown, or blackish. On the underside it is white with white to light brown veins. Light brown to orangish apothecia are commonly found but isidia and soredia are not found on this species (CLH). The rhizines can be simple or with squarrose tips; P. canina has rhizines which are much more conspicuously squarrose (Brodo et al. 2001).
