Identification #
Bright yellow crustose species withblack apothecia (less conspicuous in these species compared to Tholurna and Acroscyphus). In C. tigillare the apothecia are immersed while they are exposed in C. pinicola. These are two of the few crustose species included in this guide due to their conspicuous highlighter-yellow color and because the species may not be common in Alaska and may deserve conservation attention in the state.

Usually wood rarely on living trees, with a preference for conifers (CLH).
Habitat #
Boreal and temperate areas of North America (CLH).
